The Criminal Justice Statistics Center at Minnesota Planning is one of 52 Statistical Analysis Centers across the United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Mariana Islands funded by the federal Bureau of Justice Statistics. The center’s mission is to collect and analyze data relating to crime and the justice system, provide accurate information and analysis on emerging and critical issues, and support informed policy decisions through long-range planning.
For more than 20 years, the center has worked with many criminal justice professionals, organizations and agencies to accomplish these tasks. The center disseminates vital justice system data that is used by national, state and local policy-makers and citizens for a variety of purposes. Past and current research projects include examinations of adult and juvenile offender characteristics, sentencing trends, correctional facility overcrowding, justice system expenditures, treatment programs, minorities in the juvenile justice system, juvenile court cases, criminal history records, multistate data analyses and various justice-related data sets.
